Some friends we made on the trek. Thomas & Kirsten (deutsch), Helen & Michael (ozzie) and the two of us. We played a lot of cards and I didn't mention the rugby world cup to Michael too often. Doing the "independent" trek means you stay in the huts with 40 other people and they're pretty much the only people you'll see unless any guided trampers manage to catch you up - if you spend all day taking photos this can happen! :)
